Thursday afternoon, the jury found Kenneth Shipp guilty of capital murder in the death of Huntsville police officer Eric Freeman. The jury returned with the verdict just before 2pm.

Judge Bruce Williams then polled each juror, to ask if this was their verdict. Each said yes.

Judge Williams set the sentencing hearing to begin at 8:30 Friday morning Feb. 5.

The hearing will include more witnesses giving testimony. The jury will then go to the jury room to deliberate about a sentence, and will make a recommendation to Judge Williams. Judge Williams will have the final decision on Shipp's sentence.
